Total fatalities

The number of fatalities in the Champaign-Urbana Urbanized Area has been relatively steady since 2012, with a 5-year rolling average of approximately five total fatalities. The table and chart below show the historic total fatalities from 1980 to 2017 (the most recent year with data available) for the Cities of Champaign and Urbana, and from 1999 to 2017 for the urbanized area and the Villages of Savoy, Bondville, and Tolono. Note that the urbanized area boundary, defined in the U.S. Census, changed in 2010.

There were 6 traffic fatalities in 2016 (the most recent year with data available) in the urbanized area. Total fatalities has been relatively steady since 2012, with a 5-year rolling average of 4.8 total fatalities. Neutral rating.

2018 Rating

There were 5 traffic fatalities in 2017 in the urbanized area, an increase from 4 fatalities in 2014. The 5-year rolling average of  traffic fatalities has increased 13.0 percent from 4.6 fatalities in 2014 (2010-2014) to 5.2 fatalities in 2017 (2013-2017). Negative rating.
