The C-U MTD service area expanded in 2017, adding 2.3 square miles of additional service area mainly in southwest Champaign. The additional service area includes the new Carle at the Fields development and a few subdivisions in Champaign. With this expansion, the percentage of the urbanized area within the C-U MTD service area increased from 78.2 percent in 2015 to 79.2 percent in 2017. The C-U MTD service area remained almost unchanged during 2018 and 2019.

From 2015 to 2019, both the percentage of single-family and the percentage of multi-family housing covered by C-U MTD service area increased. Overall, residents living inside the C-U MTD service area have better access to transit service since 2015.
